President Bola Tinubu, who was announced to be at the mega rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Awka, for the November 8 Anambra State governorship election, failed to attend.
Also absent were the Vice President Kashim Shettima, Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah and former Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige.
In previous mega rallies, the president is often represented by his deputy, if he was unable to attend due to state activities.
Imo State governor Hope Uzodinma was the only South East APC governors to attend the rally, despite the fact that APC now controls three out the five South East states.
Analysts however, want to relate it with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s adoption of President Tinubu for second term.
Nonetheless, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, led other APC stalwarts, including the National Chairman Nentawe Yiwaltda.
Akpabio stated that APC being the party at the center could not afford to lose Anambra, to become the 25th APC controlled state.
Yilwatda who said APC is a messenger of hope, said the party’s candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu would end the 19-year reign of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State.
“APC will uproot APGA within the remaining eight days and 196 hours to end their reign in this state. We in the APC cannot afford to allow APGA to continue to be governing an important state like Anambra as an adopted son when we have our own son in the person of Ukachukwu,” the National Chairman stated.
Prince Ukachukwu, boasted that APC would soon replace APGA in the state with high level of development in the nearest future.
“We will soon replace insecurity, multiple taxation, corruption and non performance and boasting with adequate security, steady power supply, Industrial development and Agricultural chain,” he said.
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state and Chairman of APC Governors’ Forum, assured the electorate in the state that their votes would count this time around.
