Despite the defense and denial by the government, President Donald Trump said Christianity in Nigeria is facing existential threat.
The Nigerian government had stoutly denied that attacks by Boko Haram and other terror groups, were targeted on Christians, as Muslims were killed as well.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Alhaji Mohammed Idris, in an interview in Cable News Network (CNN), blamed faulty data on the allegations.
But the American president in a tweet on Friday @realDonaldTrump, said there is mass slaughter of Christians in Nigeria by radical Islamists.
Trump added that something has to be done “when Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3100 versus 4,476 worldwide).”
He therefore declared “Nigeria a country of particular concern,” and told Congressman Riley Moore, Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, “to immediately look into this matter, and report back to me.
“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other countries.
“We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world!”
