The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has slammed heavy fines on the winners of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Teranga Lions of Senegal, and the runners up, the Atlas Lions of Morocco.
CAF however rejected Morocco’s protest to have Senegal stripped off the title, and confirmed Senegal as champions of the 2025 AFCON.
The African football ruling body imposed a $615,000 fines on Senegal, made up of $300,000 for supporters improper conduct, $300,000 for players/staff unsporting behaviour and bringing the game to disrepute, as well as $15,000 for misconduct from the five yellow cards issued to Senegal players during the final match.
CAF also suspended Senegal Coach, Pape Thiaw for five official CAF matches; he is also fined $100,000 for bringing the game into disrepute.
Senegal players, Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr are also suspended for two official CAF matches each, for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.
On the other hand, CAF fined Morocco’s national team $415,000 while two of its players is suspended from official CAF matches.
Morocco is fined $200,000 for stadium ball boys inappropriate behaviour; $100,000 for improper conduct of players/staff invading RRA, and $15, 000 for fans’ use of lasers.
The two players suspended are Achraf Hakimi, who is suspended for two CAF official matches, while Ismael Saibari is suspended for three official CAF matches with a $100,000 fine.
Their crime is for unsporting behaviour.
