In our previous discussion, we established that virgin pregnancy is possible because a woman can biologically become pregnant without sexual intercourse. The two possibilities we highlighted are:
1. Through artificial insemination or IVF, where sperm is introduced without sexual intercourse.
2. Through what I called outercourse, where semen is released near the vaginal opening and sperm still reaches the egg without penetration.
These two possibilities still follow the same biological pattern already established by the being behind creation, which is:
Sperm + egg = fertilization (Zygote)
In the case of Mary’s conception of Jesus, there was obviously NO SPERM.
But we saw two things: Angel spoke + Mary said YES.
Then… somehow, somehow, fertilization took place. Zygote developed. Baby started growing in the womb. It stayed for nine months like every baby and was born by the mother.
As you would have seen, what is illogical here is the conception, but every other thing until delivery, followed the normal human pattern. The reason conception is illogical is simple. . . From what we know of conception, there must be sperm meeting egg not Angel talking and the other saying yes.
So, you can understand why it is easy to dismiss the story especially when you were not there to see it yourself, because as they say, seeing is believing.
But again, before you dismiss the story, I invite you to do what a truly critical mind will do.
A truly critical mind will ask: who created the pattern that says sperm + egg will produce life?
Definitely, science did not create it. They only discovered it and made it a theory.
So, who created it? Did it just come from nowhere? Or are we to just agree that it was random?
So, if it came from nowhere and if it is random, why does it maintain a consistent pattern and order? How can randomness produce intelligent order?
Definitely it couldn’t have come from nowhere.
The religious position is that someone created the pattern of sperm + egg to produce a baby.
And if truly that someone, whom is called the creator, exists, the question is: is he bound by the natural regularities He established?
Are we saying the creator can come up with the idea that sperm will meet egg and fertilize it to become human life, yet that creator is suddenly limited to the extent that he can’t come up with something else other than that pattern, if he so wishes?
I am not asking you to believe in the virgin pregnancy of Mary, those who already believe may not need this post, rather, I am asking you to evaluate your reasoning for holding it to be impossible.
Start by asking yourself why you consider Mary’s pregnancy as something impossible or illogical. The truth is that, it is only illogical because it does not follow the pattern you are used to of sperm + egg. Yet, that pattern you are used to was created by a Being. I am now asking you, that being that created that pattern you are used to, are you saying he must be imprisoned by what he created? If he has the power to create the sperm + egg pattern, does he not also have the power to create something beyond that pattern, even if it is one off?
To be fair, if you reject the existence of a Creator, then of course the claim collapses. But if you accept the possibility of a Creator, then the question remains:
Is the Author of nature limited to the processes He authored?
