The Federal Character Commission (FCC) warned the Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to adhere strictly on Federal Character rules, for the unity of the country.
The commission in a statement by Director Public Affairs & Communication, Chizea Chukwudi, said MDAs should not employ unqualified candidates in guise of adhering to federal principles.
The statement demanded that vacancies should advertised by the MDA where such occured, in at least two national newspapers, with a minimum period of six weeks before interview.
“Only qualified candidates should be shortlisted, on a state-by-state basis, with deliberate inclusion of women and persons with disabilities,” the FCC stated.
The FCC added that there should equitable distribution of job offers, which it said, should be after a joint meeting with the commission.
According to the statement, while public institutions such as ASCON, CMD, and PSIN may be engaged to conduct aptitude tests, recruitment exercises must not be outsourced to private consulting firms.
“The best and most competent from each state must be considered,” it emphasised, warning against indiscriminate use of casual or contract staff as such practices distort the staff distribution pattern.
