Manchester City have sacked a bar worker at the Etihad Stadium for wearing a Manchester United jersey on derby day.
The club in a post on X (formerly Twitter), was angered at the worker’s choice of shirt.
The staff member was shown in a picture wearing a Man United away strip from the 2018-19 season while pulling a pint, a City fan stated: “Absolute joke @ManCity – letting one of the bar staff in block 315 wear a United shirt on Derby Day.”
The complaint soon caught the attention of those in authority at the Etihad, who promptly removed the worker from his post.
Replying to the fan’s post, City wrote: “@Mataniels @ManCity Thank you for making us aware of this. We can confirm that this individual has now been removed from their position.”
The incident came before the beginning of Sunday’s Manchester derby, which started with a heartfelt tribute paid to Ricky Hatton.
City thrashed United 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium, with goals from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.
