The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has explained that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) had not fulfilled the necessary conditions required for it to acknowledge its leadership change.
ADC which has been adopted as opposition coalition for the 2027 general election, recently announced former President of the Senate David Mark, as interim National Chairman and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola as interim National Secretary.
A new set of party executive committee members was also appointed following the resignation of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) members.
More than a month after this leadership change, INEC’s official website still listed Dr. Ralphs Okey Nwosu as National Chairman and Saidi Abdullahi as National Secretary.
Other ADC former NWC members still on INEC’s website are Kelvin Alagoa as National Treasurer, Ifeyinwa Ntima as National Financial Secretary, and Barr. Ujunwa Onwuasoeze as National Legal Adviser.
But the commission’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, explained that the party is yet to formalise change of leadership with INEC.
“They have not completed all the processes required for recognition. ADC is yet to provide the commission with sample signatures of the interim Chairman/Secretary,” she said.
According to INEC regulations, political parties are required to submit detailed documentation before any leadership change can be recognised.
This includes formally documented resolutions, verified signatures from authorised officials, and strict adherence to the party’s constitutional procedures.
